« Déléguer à d’autres le soin de produire les médicaments essentiels dans un monde qui se fragmente, c’est une impasse. » Le ton d’Emmanuel Macron, en juin 2023, se voulait solennel, l’engagement à sauver la production française de médicaments ferme. Mais voilà qu’un peu plus d’un an plus tard le désastre de sa politique « pro-business » éclate au grand jour avec l’annonce par Sanofi de son intention de vendre à un fonds d’investissement étasunien 50 % de sa branche Opella. Et avec elle le médicament le plus consommé dans le pays, le Doliprane… au nom de la maximalisation de la rentabilité, de la soumission de la santé à la finance.
Malgré les milliards accordés au groupe en Crédit d’impôt recherche et autres aides publiques, la production locale et les milliers d’emplois qui vont avec pourraient être sacrifiés. Désormais, les ministres de Bercy menacent de s’opposer à la cession en l’absence de garanties contre les délocalisations, mais combien de temps ces promesses - si elles étaient obtenues - tiendraient-elles ? Tant que le médicament ne sera pas sorti des griffes de la profitabilité - via un pôle public qui l’arrache à la loi du marché et de la spéculation-, il y a fort à parier que l’intérêt général sera toujours relégué.
