Le prÈsident Jacques Chirac a annoncÈ le 30 janvier 2006 qu'il avait retenu la date du 10 mai pour commÈmorer en France mÈtropolitaine l'abolition de l'esclavage. Jacques Chirac a reconnu que le choix de la date a fait l'objet d'une polÈmique, des associations et des partis prÈfÈrant notamment celle du 23 mai, date d'une marche qui avait rÈuni en 1998 à Paris 40.000 Français originaires des Antilles, de Guyane et de la RÈunion.

Le déconfinement se profile, malgré des chiffres toujours élevés en France ce qui laissera une faible marge de manœuvre au gouvernement, explique l’épidémiologiste Pascal Crépey à « l’Obs ».
